Patience

All We Need is Just a Little

The Awakening is a massive lesson in patience, waiting for others to wake up, waiting for justice to be served, and so on.

Sometimes it feels a bit like being paralyzed, but fully conscious, while very slowly disemboweled.

But maybe that’s just me…

Forbearance and the ability to endure are among the greatest challenges we face as human beings, and they have so much to do with time and perspective. One we have no control over (time) and the other we do (perspective). If we could control time, we could easily endure anything. Violent, torturous pain felt only for a fraction of a second could probably be tolerated by anyone. Whereas a very mild, dull pain, experienced for years, could drive a person mad.

Perspective is one of the most powerful tools we have, it shapes our reality, determines our resilience, and ultimately defines our experience of life. Throughout history, human beings have trained themselves to endure unimaginable hardships simply by shifting their focus. Prisoners of war have survived years of captivity by reframing their suffering as a test of inner strength. Monks have withstood extreme physical deprivation by viewing it as a path to enlightenment. Even in everyday life, we see this power at work, people who find meaning in their struggles often endure far more than those who see only misery. Sometimes, shifting our perspective simply means directing our focus somewhere else in the meantime.

I've talked for a long time about how excruciating it became for me to keep watching all the things I had no control over, especially what was going on in the world. I had adopted an obsession with staying on top of the news and needing to know everything that was happening, or not happening. And it was driving me bonkers. That’s when I shifted my focus to what I did have control over - namely, myself.

I can't do anything to make high-level arrests happen any sooner. But I can work on being a better person, something that is entirely in my hands. It has made me feel less helpless, by far. And helped greatly with my patience vs feeling agitated all the time.

But it's not to say that we have zero influence over the other things we're waiting for. I honestly believe that when we change ourselves, we change the people around us, and the world in whole.

I think we are living at a unique time. Things are shifting and we’re getting to create a new world that we will get to live in. Just as the things we focused on years ago have put us in the place we're in currently, the things we focus on today will dictate where we will be in years to come. Only I think the times are more ripe for change than they ever have been in our lifetime.

This is why I feel so passionately about discussions about morality, ethics and integrity. If we can turn the head of the collective conscience toward these principles and get clear again on what we believe and stand for, I think we can create a solid foundation for the direction of society. After all, what good is it to get a fresh start if we Smurf it all up again with a weak foundation?

I’ve been working on a small project that I hope will spark more discussions about ethics. You may see me posting thought-provoking questions or running polls on X or Telegram to bring these topics to the forefront of our collective consciousness. These serve as litmus tests to gauge where we stand as a community and to help me better understand how I can contribute to making ethics great again.
